The New Hope Community Development Federal Credit Union was chartered in 1996 to serve Birmingham's West End community.

In 2001 the credit union was awarded $95,000 from the U.S. Treasury Department's Community Development Financial Institutions Fund. The organization was a partner in SouthTrust Bank's Centennial Place non-profit incubator on 19th Street North.

In 2009 the credit union had just over 900 members and held approximately $1.3 million in assets. In July of that year the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) placed the organization under its conservatorship.
