The 2004 Rickwood Classic was the 9th in the annual series of "throwback" games played by the Birmingham Barons in vintage-style uniforms at Birmingham's historic Rickwood Field. The Barons lost 8-6 against the Huntsville Stars on June 17, on a hot and muggy, 93 degree summer afternoon. During the game, the teams combined for a total of 22 hits in a game light on solid pitching. Huntsville's Brad Nelson provided the highlight of the day with a 410 foot home run in the first inning.

The Barons honored the teams of the old industrial leagues of the 1930s. Birmingham wore the uniforms of Sloss Industries. Huntsville wore the uniforms of U.S. Steel. The first 1,500 fans received small replica of Rickwood Field. The game was presented by State Farm Insurance. General admission tickets were $8.

The announced crowd for the Thursday mid-day game was 7,165. Special guests included over 100 players from the old industrial leagues the Barons were paying tribute to.
