Alabama Museum of the Health Sciences
The Alabama Museum of the Health Sciences conserves and exhibits important collections of the University of Alabama at Birmingham related to medical research, practice and pedagogy. It was established in 1975 and is located on the third floor of UAB's Lister Hill Library at 1700 University Boulevard. The curator is Stefanie Rookis.
Highlights of the museum's collections include the Reynolds Historic Library (a large collection of rare medical texts, manuscripts and artifacts), wax specimens sculpted by Joseph Towne of London and collected by Josiah Nott, medical specimens collected by William Boyd, various historical instruments, including an early 20th century iron lung, and archives relating to medical studies in Alabama.
In 2011 several of the oversize painted heads from the "Heads Up Alabama" public art project were placed on long-term display in the museum.
