The bar, co-owned by Terrell Owens and his cousin Antonio Minnifield, first opened on July 22, 2005 at Dr Pepper Place. The name Amani Raha came from the Swahili words for "peace" and "happiness". The mostly stark white lounge, accented with bright red, occupied the space formerly known as The Juniper. The bar closed March 31, 2008.
In June 2010, the owners of the Martin Biscuit Building sued Minnifield and Owens for failing to pay past due rent, utility costs and operating expenses accrued under the lease. On September 11, 2010 the bar re-opened in its present location.
