Burke Swearingen

Burke V. Swearingen (born 1949) is the Vice President for Corporate Security for Regions Bank. From November 2003 to September 3, 2007 he served as the Chief of the Homewood Police Department.

Swearingen earned his bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Auburn University in 1981 and joined the Jackson Police Department in Clarke County. He joined the Homewood Police in 1984 and rose steadily through the ranks, making sergeant in 1997 after he completed a master's in justice and public safety at Auburn. He was promoted to lieutenant in 2002 and then was appointed chief of police in 2003. Among his accomplishments as chief was the computerization of older department records.

Burke Swearingen, who lives in Vestavia Hills and has taught Sunday school at Shades Mountain Baptist Church, is married with two children.
