Don MacDermott

Don MacDermott (born 1954) was a real estate executive who represented District 1 in the Birmingham City Council for one term from 1997 to 2001. He was defeated in a run-off in the 2001 Birmingham City Council election by Joel Montgomery.

MacDermott founded The Buyer's Agent real estate company and was active in the Alabama Republican Party.

In August 2007, as part of a federal investigation, MacDermott was arrested at his Trussville home and charged with possession of obscene material involving victims younger than 17. Computers and other materials, as well as a submachine gun were taken from the house. On December 5, 2007 MacDermott pleaded guilty to receiving and possessing child pornography and was sentenced on March 27, 2008 to five years imprisonment, the mandatory minimum.

MacDermott's wife, Cheri, has filed for divorce. The couple have two adult children.
