Gary Wheat

Gary Wheat (born March 12, 1977) is a jazz saxophonist based in Birmingham. He is a graduate of Huntsville's Virgil Grissom High School and of the University of Alabama. At Alabama he was briefly a member of the funk/rock outfit Downright.

Wheat was formerly adjunct instructor of saxophone at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and an active member of several local jazz groups including Meteorite, the Chad Fisher Group, the Magic City Jazz Orchestra, the Ray Reach and Friends, the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame All-Stars, the Carlos Pino Jazz Group, and Double Threat. He is currently a member of the jazz faculty of the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame.

He has played with the Temptations, the Four Tops, the O'Jays, Ruben Studdard, Cleveland Eaton, Johnny O'Neal and Lou Marini.
