Glynn West

Glynn West (born 1932 - died February 4, 2008) was the general manager of the Birmingham A's baseball team in the 1960s. He oversaw the opening of Rickwood Field to integrated crowds and arranged the purchase of 1,000 wooden seats from New York City's Polo Grounds for use at the stadium.

West started as a scoreboard operator for the Birmingham Barons. He was hired as the A's manager by owner Charlie Finley. Afterward he worked as the ticket manager for the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center during the heyday of the Birmingham Bulls hockey team. He threw the first pitch at the 2007 Rickwood Classic, honoring the 1964 and 1965 Birmingham A's.

Later he worked in the steel industry and managed his son Shane's veterinary practice.

West died after a brief illness in 2008. He was survived by his wife, Dot; three children, Debbie, Shane and Candy; and seven grandchildren. A funeral mass was held at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church and he is interred at Elmwood Cemetery.
