This is a List of Birmingham homicides in 1985. It includes homicide cases occurring within the city limits during the calendar year. Note that not all homicides are ultimately ruled to be murder in courts of law.

  1. February 25: John Davidson died at Medical Center East from gunshot wounds suffered two days earlier at Mrs Winner's, 737 29th Street South in Lakeview. Davidson, an assistant manager, was the victim of an apparent robbery. Anthony Ray Hinton was convicted of capital murder and sentenced to death. The conviction was set aside by Circuit Court judge Laura Petro in October 2014 and set for retrial. He was later released when prosecutors determined the ballistics evidence used to convict him was unreliable.
  2. July 2: Thomas Wayne Vason, was shot to death at the Captain D's restaurant on 1st Avenue North in Woodlawn. Vason, an assistant manager, was the victim of an apparent robbery. Anthony Ray Hinton was convicted of capital murder and sentenced to death. The conviction was set aside by Circuit Court judge Laura Petro in October 2014 and set for retrial.
