Scott Padgett

Scott Padgett (born April 19, 1976 in Louisville, Kentucky) is the head coach of the Samford Bulldogs basketball team since June 2014.

Padgett grew up in Louisville and was recruited by Kentucky Wildcats coach Rick Pitino from St Xavier High School. He struggled to keep up with class word during his freshman year, during which he averaged 2 points and 1.2 rebounds per game in limited action. After rejoining the team mid-way through the 1996-97 season he average 9.6 points and 5.1 rebounds per game for a team that lost to Arizona in the national championship game. He was named to the All-Final Four team that year. In Fall 1997 he was named a starter and averaged 11.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game from the power forward spot, helping Kentucky claim a national championship with a 17-point outing against Utah. He was named a first-team All-American and an Academic All-Southeastern Conference player. As a senior, Padgett averaged 12.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists on a team that lost to Michigan State in the Elite Eight.

Padgett was selected by the Utah Jazz with the 28th overall pick in the first round of the 1999 NBA draft. He started nine games as a rookie and was a regular contributed for four seasons. He was traded to the Houston Rockets in 2003 and spent two seasons there primarily as a back-up player. In 2005 he signed with the New Jersey Nets, but was waived and subsequently returned to the Rockets. He was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in February 2007 and ended his NBA career with 1,874 points in 448 games.

He and former Louisville Cardinal football player Dave Ragone began hosting "The Dave and Scott Show" from WAY-FM in Louisville. The program was televised by WBKI-TV in 2009. That April Padgett was hired by new Kentucky coach John Calipari to work as an assistant for the Wildcats basketball program. He left in 2010 for a coaching job at Manhattan College in Manhattan, Kansas. In April 2012 he joined Bennie Seltzer's staff at Samford University. When Seltzer was fired in June 2014, Padgett was promoted to head coach.

Padgett and his wife, Cynthia, have three children: Logan, Lucas and Layla.
