The 2017 Birmingham Barons was the fifth Barons team to play in downtown Birmingham's Regions Field. The season marked the Logan family's 11th season as team owners and the team's 32nd season as a Chicago White Sox AA affiliate. They played in the North division of the Southern League along with the Huntsville Stars, Chattanooga Lookouts, Jackson Generals and Tennessee Smokies.

Julio Vinas returned to Birmingham as field manager, succeeding Ryan Newman after one season. Jose Bautista was the team's pitching coach and Cole Armstrong debuted as hitting coach.
