Gardendale-Martha Moore Public Library

The Gardendale-Martha Moore Public Library is the public library for the City of Gardendale. It offers meeting rooms, a reading porch, and computers for public use. The library provides programs for all ages as well as DVDs, audiobooks, books and downloadable material for check out.

Gardendale's first public library was a set of shelves in the office of the Chief of Police, approved in 1959 by Mayor J. I. Pesnell at the suggestion of Martha C. Moore, who became the city's first librarian. Over the next 45 years the library moved four times. Its current building, at 995 Mt Olive Road, opened in 1990 and was fully renovated and expanded from 7,730 square feet to 12,642 square feet in 2012.

A large, outdoor deck was added to the library in 2016 and was officially opened for public use on September 15, 2016 with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
