Alabama State Senate District 15 includes most of eastern Shelby County (Chelsea, Columbiana, Vincent, Wilsonville, etc.) and parts of eastern Jefferson County (Center Point, Trussville, Irondale, etc.)
In 1978 the district covered mainly northern and western Birmingham. The district was greatly expanded into Shelby County in 1983. Former District 12 senator John Amari took over District 15 while incumbent Earl Hilliard inherited District 20, whose incumbent Donald Holmes assumed the new District 12.
