Alabama State Senate District 5 includes all of Fayett and Walker Counties along with western Jefferson County, northern Tuscaloosa County and southern Winston County. Municipalities in the district include Arley, Belk, Berry, Carbon Hill, Concord, Cordova, Dora, Double Springs, Eldridge, Fayette, Jasper, Kansas, Lynn, Natural Bridge, Nauvoo, Oakman, Parrish, Rock Creek, Sipsey, Sumiton, Sylvan Springs, West Jefferson. It also includes parts of Adamsville, western Birmingham, Brookwood, Glen Allen, Graysville, Gu-Win, Hueytown, Northport, Pleasant Grove, Tuscaloosa, and Winfield.

As of the 2010 census, the district encompasses 134,976 residents; 88% white and 10% black.
