The Episcopal Place Gumbo Gala is an annual gumbo competition and fund-raising event held to benefit Episcopal Place. Both amateur and professional teams cook pots of gumbo in the park for competitive judging and public tasting. Music, children's inflatable jump zones, face painting and baked goods for sale round out the event.
The festival was launched in 2006 and is held each Spring. It was inspired in part by the arrival at Episcopal Place of four couples from Louisiana who had lost their homes to Hurricane Katrina. Caldwell Park hosted the event for several years, after which it moved to Regions Field. Past winners have included the Garage Café.
