Wayne was a rock band that formed in July 1997 by vocalist/guitarist Rodney Reaves, bassist Rusty Smithson and drummer Jon Hornsby. Reaves was the group's principal songwriter. The still-unnamed band was first billed as "Wayne" when The Nick's Pam Stallings made the suggestion to use Reaves' middle name.
Michael Swann, formerly of Mars Electric, quickly took over lead vocals and guitar. Kevin and Keith Harrison, formerly of Sweetgum Head, joined the group during the recording of their first and only album with Jason Elgin at Synchromesh Studios in Tarrant in the summer and fall of 1999. Joseph Dorough later joined as another guitarist. Justin Johnson replaced Smithson on bass in the early 2000s.
The group toured with John Mayer, the Tragically Hip, and Five for Fighting; and had tracks chosen for use on the television series "Smallville" and the films "The Haven" and "Swim Fan". They were heavily promoted by WRAX-FM host Scott Register and booked as regular performers at the alternative rock festival "X Fest". Their only full-length album, "Music on Plastic," was independently released by the band before being picked up by TVT Records for national distribution.
Not long after that release, though, the band split up.
