Finley Boulevard (also known as Alabama State Route 378 since 2016, and formerly part of U.S. Highway 78) is a 2.3-mile long, 6-lane surface street running east-west from Arkadelphia Road (U.S. Highway 78) to 27th Street North, with an interchange to I-65 Exit 262-B. The boulevard parallels Southern Railway's massive Finley Yard, named for its second president William Finley. The railyard is now operated by BNSF Railway as the BNSF Birmingham Automotive Facility.
Various long-term proposals have been made involving the Finley Boulevard corridor. An advocacy group, Move I-20/59, argued in 2015 that the I-20/59 downtown viaduct was a nuisance to downtown Birmingham, and suggested moving the interstates to Finley Boulevard right-of-way. A separate plan envisions extending the Boulevard eastward, past Collegeville, to Alabama State Highway 79 (Vanderbilt Road) near Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport.
Addresses on Finley Boulevard run in both directions from Center Street North. The western section runs from the 100s to the 800s, and the eastern section starts at 1100 and runs to the 2600s.
