Civitas is a bronze sculpture of of a female figure depicted with models of buildings in Mountain Brook's English Village.
The work, designed and cast by North Carolina sculptor James Barnhill, evokes Carolyn Smith, a self-taught architect who was active in the 1920s and designed several houses in the area.
It was dedicated in 1998.
