The 1973 Salute to France was the 23rd annual Birmingham Festival of Arts, held in March 1973. The event included numerous performances, exhibits and events celebrating French arts and culture, including a week-long "International Fair" at Boutwell Auditorium.
The Birmingham Music Club's Junior Board invited chef Julia Child, host of the PBS series "The French Chef" to lead a two-day "cooking school" on March 28–29. She and her husband Paul arrived in the city earlier in the week and were treated to an al fresco luncheon at Vulcan Park on March 26.
