The company was founded in Blountsville in 1978 by Paul Douglas Ross as the Rubber Repair Service, Inc.. Its name was changed to the Douglas Equipment Company in 1982 and it relocated to its present site in 2001. Paul Ross II has served as president of the company since 1995. In addition to its main plant at 300 Industrial Park Drive in Pell City, Douglas operates distribution centers in Dallas, Texas; Sacramento, California; and Rockford, Illinois.

In 2022 the company announced a $2 million, 15,000 square-foot expansion.
