Sarah Wart Whiteside is the head of the Altamont School. She began teaching Latin at the school in 1978 and moved into administration in 1999. In 2001 she left to become dean of the upper school at Trinity School in Durham, North Carolina, but returned to Altamont in 2003.
Whiteside has served as head of the middle school, assistant head of school, and dean of students at Altamont. When Tom Wheelock left, she was named as the interim head of school. After a national search was conducted, she was chosen for the permanent position based on her experience, skills, and devotion to the school.
Whiteside's two children are both graduates of Altamont.
