Everette C. Atkerson founded the business in 1946 at 223 22nd Street North in Birmingham. In the mid-1950s they moved to 3101 4th Avenue South and stayed in that location until they closed in December 2013. Atkerson's son, Tommy, opened up a second location in Atlanta in the 1960s and his son, Steve, continued to run the business in Atlanta until July 2018.
