Independence Preparatory Academy is a planned K-8 charter school, founded by Calandra Sales, formerly of New Schools for Alabama and Building Excellent Schools. Its charter was approved by the Alabama Public Charter School Commission in May 2023.

New Schools for Alabama has provided $300,000 to support the school's launch. Sales expects to have $2.45 million in start-up grants secured before opening. The school plans to open for Kindergarten through 2nd grade students in 2024 and to add a grade each year.

In addition to regular coursework, students will have extra reading and math "acceleration" instruction in 40-60 minute blocks 4-5 times per week. Students will also complete "Eagle Quests", career-oriented special projects, twice each year.
