Save A Lot Food Stores is a chain of discount supermarkets founded in 1977 in Cahokia Heights, Illinois by Bill Moran. The chain currently has more than 900 stores in 32 states and reports more than $4 billion in annual sales. Its headquarters offices are in St Ann, Missouri.
Save A Lot stores are usually operated by independent owners under license to the company, which acts as a wholesaler, focusing on its dozens of private brands. Individual stores are usually around 15,000 square feet. Most items are displayed on shelves in their shipping containers.
In 2020 investor Austin Singleton acquired four company-owned Alabama locations of Save A Lot. He hired Sonya Smith as CEO and Willie Speights as COO to manage those stores, as well as the Harvest Market and Village Market stores that he acquired in 2019.
