  • March 9: Toni Maria Lim, 23, found bound in her apartment at Raleigh Villas with her throat slit and evidence of rape. Lim was a married student who performed at Sammy's Go-Go. Steven Alan Petric was charged with capital murder in 2004 after being jailed for armed robbery in Illinois. A national database matched his DNA to a sample taken from Lim's apartment. He was convicted in August 2009 and sentenced to death. [1]
