David M. Frings is the mayor of Alabaster and director of the Oak Mountain Interpretive Center.

Frings is a 1973 graduate of Shades Valley High School and earned his bachelor of science in geology from UAB. In 1976 he began working as a geologist in the Alabama Power Company's construction department. He transferred to Southern Company in 1998, becoming its general construction superintendent in 2000. He is a licensed geologist in Alabama and is also certified to practice in Mississippi. He retired from Southern Company in 2006.

Frings and his wife, Jennifer, have operated the Fossil Site, a nature store for children, since 1999. They have three daughters, Haley, Holley and Heidi.

Frings was elected mayor of Alabaster in 2000 and was re-elected in 2004.
