Red Mountain Bank was founded in Hoover in June, 2004, by Mike Washburn and a group of investors and community leaders. Red Mountain Bank's first office was opened just off US Highway 280 in the Inverness area of Hoover at 5 Inverness Center Parkway. It also has an office in the English Village area of Mountain Brook, at 1906 Cahaba Road. Red Mountain Bank plans on expanding in an area from Fairhope (Baldwin County) in the south to Tennessee in the north.

The design of Red Mountain Bank's English Village office, created by GA Architecture Studio, won a 2008 Merit Award for Commercial Architecture from AIA Birmingham.
