In the late 1940s he and his brothers opened the [[Jack O'Lantern Dinner Club]] in [[Homewood]]. After it closed in the 1950s he went into the insurance business, but returned to restaurants with the [[Pig Trail Inn]], also in Homewood, in the 1960s. He followed that with the opening of the [[Triple J Ranch]] in [[Alabaster]], which he operated until [[1978]] when he "retired" to develop larger projects including shopping centers and motels.
