For comparison's sake

Bhamwiki is an online encyclopedic resource founded privately and hosted at my personal expense. It was launched in March 2006 with an initial scope of 1 article drawn from online newspaper archives. As of January 2012 the encyclopedia has 8,514 articles on a wide variety of subjects pertaining to the Birmingham District.

Bhamwiki is staffed solely by volunteer editors and has an annual budget of about $125. Special features of Bhamwiki include images and some content-specific indexes.

It has been praised as among "Birmingham's Hottest Sites" by Wade Kwon and was named a "Weekly Pick" in March 2007 by Birmingham Weekly. The site was developed on the free Mediawiki platform. Most content is shared under a Creative Commons license.
