Stanley Oliver Sr is the chief of the Alabaster Police Department who retires October 1, 2012.
Oliver met his wife, the former Laura Miller, when she transferred to Thompson High School. The two married in 1972.
On February 29, 1989, Oliver was shot, but recovered.
In April 2001, Alabaster Police Chief Larry Rollan was reassigned to strictly administrative duties while the Alabama Bureau of Investigation (ABI) investigated the department at the request of Mayor David Frings. Then Captain Oliver was assigned to supervise the day-to-day operations of the department. Oliver was officially awarded the chief position in October.
Oliver's law enforcement spanned more than 40 years when he announced his retirement in August 2012. He and Laura have four children, Farrah, Stan Jr, Jonathon, and Michael, and several grandchildren.
