The 1987 mayoral election for the city of Birmingham was held on October 13, 1987 with three challengers vying for the office held by two-term incumbent Richard Arrington, Jr.

Results

  1. Richard Arrington, Jr: 51,850 votes (64%)
  2. Bob McKee: 28,642 votes (35%)
  3. Richard Finley: 658 votes (1%)
  4. John Hawkins: 146 votes (0.1%)

Overall voter turnout was about 55%.
