The Birmingham Large Users Group (BLUG) is an organization of users of large (mainframe) computers in the Birmingham area. It began in 1983 with a series of lunch meetings at the Downtown Club with representatives of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama, SouthTrust Bank, Sonat, BellSouth, Liberty National, UAB, Jim Walter Corporation and AmSouth Bank.
The group was incorporated as a non-profit with the mission of promoting cooperation between large computer users.
