Gin Phillips is a freelance writer and the author of the 2008 novel The Well and the Mine, set in 1931 in Carbon Hill. The novel received the 2008 Barnes & Noble "Discover Award" for fiction.
Phillips grew up in Montgomery and graduated from Birmingham-Southern College in 1997. She was a regular contributor to Birmingham Weekly, and her work has also been featured in American Profile, American Spirit, Platinum, and Women's World.
