Juneteenth CultureFest is an African-American cultural festival hosted by the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute at Kelly Ingram Park. The event commemorates June 19, 1865, the day that slaves working in Galveston, Texas finally got word about the Emancipation Proclamation two years after it was signed.

There is no state holiday for Juneteenth in Alabama law, but the day has been proclaimed as a state holiday by Governor Kay Ivey in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.
