Birmingham Fire Station No. 17 is located at the Southwest corner of the "Wylam 5-way", or the intersection of 7th Avenue Wylam, 8th Avenue Wylam, and Lexington Street. It serves Wylam, Sherman Heights, Oakwood, and parts of Edgewood.
History
The current station is the third station built for the Wylam community. The previous station, at 720 Huron Street, was the location of the last horses in service for Birmingham Fire Department. The horses were retired in 1916.
