Chez Lulu is a casual French-inspired bistro located at 1911 Cahaba Road in Mountain Brook's English Village.
It was opened in 1995 by Carole Griffin as an expansion of her Continental Bakery which has been located next door since 1984. The space which had been shared with Jane Comer's Elegant Earth became available when she sold the business and it moved out of English Village.
The menu features sandwiches, salads, tartes, and fresh soups on a rotating menu. Pizzas are available in the evenings and a special brunch menu is served on Sundays. Sunday evenings often feature accordion performers.
Chez Lulu's interior, in rich jewel-toned reds and golds illuminated by lamps and Christmas lights, was designed by Griffin and artist Tracy Martin, who also constructed the the bistro's wrought-iron tables. The scheme inspired the name of the restaurant, based on a French euphemism for a bordello.
