James "Jim" St. John is the chief of the Vestavia Hills Fire Department. He joined the department in 1998 and became a battalion chief in charge of training in 2002. His nomination was approved by the Vestavia Hills City Council on June 2, 2008. He succeeded Butch Zaragoza who retired in April in order to run for Mayor of Vestavia Hills.
