- 2000: The Birmingham Pledge mural was dedicated at the Birmingham Police Department's downtown headquarters.
- 1996: The Olympic soccer countdown clock was auctioned off at Legion Field.
- 1981: Baseball player Connor Robertson was born in Tuscaloosa.
- 1963: Dwight and Floyd Armstrong attended the first integrated class at Graymont Elementary School. President Kennedy sent the National Guard to escort black students into West End High School and Ramsay High School.
- 1940: Football player Buck Buchanan was born.
- 1887: Richard Jowers was killed in an accident at Alice Furnace.
