Richard H. Fries (born in Cincinnati, Ohio) was an attorney.
Fries' family moved to Pensacola, Florida in his childhood and he attended Spring Hill College in Mobile and read law in Florida. He moved to Birmingham in November 1887 and was employed as an attorney by the Georgia Pacific Railroad.
Fries purchased controlling interest in the Douglass Flexible Wheelbase Engine which he attempted to have manufactured in Birmingham. He was known as an entertaining speaker and as a talented musician.
Fries served as president of the Independent Order of B'ne B'rith Birmingham Lodge No. 368 and as a charter member of the Knights and Ladies of the Maccabees Luckie Tent No. 2.
