Surin West is a Thai restaurant located at 1918 11th Avenue South in Five Points South. The restaurant was Surin Techarukpong's first restaurant in Birmingham after successful restaurants opened in the Atlanta area; the "West" in the name refers to Birmingham's geographical situation with Atlanta. The restaurant opened in 1995, originally serving Thai food slightly modified for an American palate. In 1999 Surin West added sushi to its menu. Techarukpong has since opened several other "Surin" restaurants in the Birmingham District.
The restaurant was expanded into the adjoining space which once housed Five Points Theatre; the theater's facade is still visible.
