Houston County is a county in southeast Alabama with Dothan as its seat. It was created in 1903 by taking parts of Dale, Geneva and Henry counties. The name of the county was chosen to honor former Governor George Houston.
In the 1890s, a Houston County was proposed to be split off from Jefferson County with parts of Walker and Tuscaloosa counties, with Bessemer as its seat.
