Bessemer Academy is a K-12 non-denominational Christian private school located at 1705 4th Avenue Southwest in Bessemer. As of 2017 the school has 415 students. Julie Kelly is headmaster. The school is accredited by the Alabama Independent School Association and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
The school was founded in 1970 by a group of parents. It opened in a "little red school house" on Old Tuscaloosa Highway in September of that year with 80 students and six teachers led by headmaster Barry Norton. The original mascot, the "Tigers" was changed to "Rebels" within a few years.
In 1981 Faith Christian School closed and merged into Bessemer Academy.
