Documentation
It seems that perhaps the only documentation of this event originated with Alexander's report which was reprinted in several newspapers. I have found no reports of a deadly fire in June-July 1933. Since she apparently lived outside the city, directories are of little help. I did not find a listing for an International Labor Defense office in Birmingham. Reporting of another lynching case in Tuscaloosa County in August 1933 gave the name of "Frank Irwin" as an ILD attorney "From Birmingham", but the nearest name I found in the 1932 directory was a Frank Erwin, described as a clerk living at the 61st Street Y. --Dystopos (talk) 19:24, 17 October 2023 (CDT)
