Louise Alexander represents District 2 in the Bessemer City Council.

She was first elected to the Council in 1998 and was re-elected in 2002.

In June 2006 she lost to E. B. McClain in the Democratic primary for Alabama State Senate, District 19. In August of that year she was re-elected to the City Council after winning a run-off with challenger Clinton Harris.

In 2008 Alexander was charged with using her office for personal gain and for soliciting bribes during an investigation by the Alabama Attorney General's office and the Alabama Ethics Commission into possible corruption at Bessemer City Hall. She is accused of soliciting funds from Tuscaloosa businessman Stan Pate for school programs that did not exist.

In 2009 Alexander ran for the vacancy left in Alabama Senate District 19 by the departure of convicted Senator E. B. McClain.
