Dr Oswaldo Ponce is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports industries. He and his family currently reside in Birmingham while he completes a fellowship at the Alabama Sports Medicine and Orthopwedic Center at St Vincent's Hospital under Dr James Andrews. Their home is Barquisimeto, Venezuela.

Dr Ponce, who holds degrees in orthopedic medicine from Venezuela and a sports medicine certificate from the University of Miami's Doctor's Hospital, plans to create a Latin American Sports Medicine Institute in Venezuela which is modeled on Alabama's.

Ponce is married to architect Elba Cadena and has two daughters, Jessica and Maria Fernanda.
