Frederic Joseph Bonnie (born October 11, 1945 in Bridgton, Maine; died May 13, 2000 near Spartanburg, South Carolina) was a novelist and former gardening editor for Southern Living magazine.
He earned a bachelor of arts from the University of Vermont in 1971 and edited the literary journal Isinglass Review from 1968 to 1974. He moved to Birmingham in 1974 to work at Southern Living.
Bonnie completed a master of fine arts in creative writing at UAB, and taught fiction writing for UAB Special Studies from 1978 to 1982. During the late 1980s he conducted regular readings at the NewsBreak bookstore/cafe. He also helped organize Birmingham-Southern College's annual "Writing Today" conference.
