Special election for Jefferson County Commission District 1

A special election was held to fill the vacant seat left by William Bell when he became Mayor of Birmingham. George Bowman won the June 22 runoff, in which only 6% of eligible voters showed up at the polls. He was sworn into office soon after. Many of the same candidates also appeared on the ballot for the full four-year term to be decided in the 2010 general election on November 2:
