The 2012 Ardell plane crash was a fatal aviation accident that occurred near the Ardell community on Smith Lake in Cullman County on September 17, 2012.

The Mooney 20 aircraft was in route from Destin, Florida to Gallatin, Tennessee. The craft was in contact with a Federal Aviation Administration air traffic control tower in Atlanta when it encountered difficult weather conditions, and the pilot signaled "Mayday" before crashing.

The crash created an 80-yard long debris field through a pasture belonging to Philip Harbison on the north side of Cullman County Road 174. The pilot, a physician from Hendersonville, Tennessee, was killed, along with his wife.
