55th Place South (or South 55th Place) is a small street in Birmingham's Woodlawn and Crestwood North neighborhoods.

It runs through the heart of Woodlawn's commercial district from 1st Avenue North to 1st Avenue South, then jogs to the west and continues over the Alabama Great Southern Railroad South District and Norfolk-Southern Railroad East End District railroad tracks into Woodlawn Heights (Crestwood North) at 5th Avenue South. From there the street continues as 56th Street South, but another section of 55th Place South picks up a little further west and runs south past the Crest Parc subdivision on the former site of the Woodlawn Infirmary. It turns sharply west just north of the Alabama & Tennessee River Railroad track and runs into 6th Avenue South.
