B. A. Thompson

Burges Asbury Thompson, (1850-1922), was Mayor of Birmingham from 1888-1890. He succeeded Judge A. O. Lane and was followed by David J. Fox. He was in office during the dramatic events following the Hawes murders.

Thompson was the eldest son of builder Jesse S. Thompson, and his wife Henrietta, who came to the city at its founding in 1871 and the brother of T. C. Thompson, founder and owner of the Thompson Brick Company in Birmingham and theSiluria Cotton Mill in Shelby County. Burges and Thomas were partners in the continuation of their father's contracting business for 18 months beginning in 1873.
